Our New Year’s Snare

(Journal entry from New Years Day, 2015.)

I am sorry to say, that satan attacked me last night, and I succumbed.

I spent the last day of 2014 baking cookies for that evening.

All day, my husband was in an irritable mood, but I did not realize it until it was too late.

We were planning to eat our dinner, and then sit down and watch the ball drop at midnight, while snacking on cookies and chips.

But we never got that far.

While I was making supper, my husband decided to watch a movie called ‘Spinal Tap’ on television. He told the kids how funny it was, but the vibes I was getting from the show made me feel really uncomfortable. I thought to ask him to change the channel, but a voice kept whispering to me that it was o.k., and that it would soon get better. But when the main character in the movie started to swear multiple times, one right after the other, I called out my husband’s name in exasperation, upon which he then very reluctantly changed the channel.

But it wasn’t much better, for he had changed it to ‘The Twilight Zone’ marathon. Sometimes I’ve been able to watch this without a problem, but tonight was not one of them. It left me feeling uneasy. When I asked him to change the channel, he asked “To what? The three stooges?”

Then for some reason the fireplace ashes started to back up into the room, causing some of us to have health issues. Coughing, watery eyes, and headaches plagued some of the kids. My husband said he had cleaned out all the ashes a few days ago, so I figured I’d go in and wash it down with water to get rid of the rest of the soot. But when I went in, I found big piles of soot still there. So my husband resentfully decided to remove some more of the ash with a shovel, while I went to go get the vacuum cleaner. Half way through he became very angry, lost his temper, and stormed into the bedroom, saying he had ‘had it’ and that this was not what he had planned on doing for the night, so he was now going to go to bed.

I asked him if he was going to cast out the demons troubling him, but he said no and then went to bed.

After cleaning out the rest of the fireplace, the soot in the air dissipated and the kids and I were finally able to breathe freely without coughing or having our eyes tear up.

But we all knew that things were majorly wrong. We all sat down with each other to discuss with some bewilderment, what had happened. Normally their father does not loose his temper like that and storm off. Then almost at the same time, we all breathed the word “Christmas!” We realized that Christmas, several years ago, was the last time he had done such a thing. Then it hit us; we weren’t supposed to be celebrating New Years Eve!

We thought about what we had done the year before, and realized that we had watched the ball drop, but it had been by accident. The cable power had gone out that night, and it had come back on line just a few minutes before midnight. The channel it came back on to, was one that showed the New Year’s Eve festivities. So my husband and the rest of the family, all watched the ball drop last year, by accident.

But we had not planned out the night to do so like we had this year. For some reason, we thought it would be o.k., cause we didn’t have the holiday lights up or the Christmas tree in the room, so everything would be o.k.. But we were wrong.

So we stopped the festivities to do some research on line about the pagan history of New Year’s Eve. What we found reminded us of Christmas. Once again, the pagans, back in Roman times, were celebrating it with their god janus. This god had two faces on him, one looking to the future, and one to the past. (It is where they get the month ‘January’.) All the noise one makes at the stroke of midnight? It’s supposed to chase away all the evil spirits. (I laughed at this; demons are NOT scared of loud noise!) The infant new baby you always see as a symbol of the new year, is the old Greek god named dionysus, the god of wine and alcohol. Father time, the one who ushers out the old year, is none other than the grim reaper himself. When I realized that we were celebrating his holiday, my stomach turned sour. We have seen the grim reaper a few times before. He is NOT a fatherly sight!

I also researched when God said the new year was. (Yes, it is actually in the bible.) Exodus 12:1-2, “And the Eternal spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying, This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you.” So, the 1st day of the first month (Abib/Nisan) is the first day of the year. This year, it falls on March 21st, (God’s New Years Eve,) and March 22ond, (the first day of the New Year.) The exact date changes every year, but is usually in March or April of our calendar. (http://biblelight.net/feasts.htm)

But there was one thing that I discovered, that really shook me to the core. I found it on the web site http://www.rampantscotland.com/know/blknow12.htm, (check it out for more info on our New Years Eve pagan traditions,) which gives the history of the holiday from the Viking/Celtic/Scottish viewpoint. I read: “There are traditions before midnight such as cleaning the house on 31st December (including taking out the ashes from the fireplace…) ! What? Cleaning out ashes from the fireplace before midnight on New Years Eve is a pagan tradition?!? No wonder the fire place ashes had become bothersome that evening. Why didn’t it bother us on the days before? Here satan had manipulated me into following his protocols for the holiday, and I didn’t even know it!

Well, after finding all this information out, we realized that we’d really be cursing ourselves if we continued to celebrate this holiday. So we stopped. Instead, we told the Lord that we were sorry, and then asked Him to please forgive us. We didn’t see the ball drop this year. We didn’t listen to “For Auld Lang Syne” afterwards. We didn’t make a whole bunch of noise at the midnight hour either. And we did not miss it at all!

I was still uncertain what to do concerning my husband. The Lord already knew that I was reluctant to go to bed next to my husband, for now I always refuse to lay down with known demons near by. But the Lord then told me to go get the blessed olive oil and bless him as he lay sleeping. So I did, binding up and casting out any holiday demons (and or other demons like resentfulness, anger, or projection,) that were troubling him. He didn’t even wake up or stir, but I could feel that they had left him, so I was able to go to sleep peacefully.

The next morning, my husband told me that even last night he did not want the demons troubling him. (I guess this was some kind of misunderstanding between us.) My husband and I then both hugged each other and said sorry to each other, and then agreed to not celebrate New Years Day. No watching the Rose Bowl Parade, or games, or other New Years Day activities. So, today has been just a regular day for us.

But- it has been a good one!

Now I find myself wondering just how in the world did satan get me to fall back into such a corrupted hole again? I felt as if I had landed in a snare! We had stopped celebrating it because we had sensed that it too, was pagan. So I had known that the holiday was not of the Lord, yet I had fallen back into old habits again. Lord, please help me to never forget again! I can hear the old warning of the Lord call out “Learn not the ways of the heathen!” (Jeremiah 10:2) I can see the dangers of learning their ways. Especially when they become habit and tradition!

Please Jesus, place your truth in and over the hearts of us and all of Your people. Help us to see clearly how best to worship You and love You as You have asked us to do. Help us to not stray from Your Word, which instructs us on how to follow You and worship You. And please Lord, stop us from adding anything on to it! Wake us up! Help us to keep our eyes focused on YOU!

“You shall not bow down to their gods, nor serve them, nor do after their works…lest they make you sin against Me…their gods…will surely be a snare unto you” (Ex. 23:24, 33)

“Take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them, after that they be destroyed from before thee; and that thou inquire not after their gods, saying ‘How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise.’ Thou shalt not do so unto the eternal they God: for every abomination to the Eternal, WHICH HE HATETH, have they done to their gods ….” (Deut. 12:30-31.)

“In VAIN do they worship me,” said Jesus Christ, “teaching for doctrines the commandments of men!”
“Full well YE REJECT THE COMMANDMENT OF GOD, that ye may keep your own tradition, … making the Word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered!” (Mark 7:7, 9, 13.)

II Kings 17:15-18, “And they rejected his statutes, and his covenant that he made with their fathers, and his testimonies which he testified against them; and they followed vanity, and became vain, and went after the heathen that were round about them, concerning whom the Lord had charged them, that they should not do like them!”

“Therefore the LORD was very angry with Israel, and removed them out of his sight …. and afflicted them, and delivered them into the hand of spoilers, until he had cast them out of his sight …. so was Israel carried away out of their own land to Assyria unto this day!” (II Kings 17:18, 20, and 23.)

“For I am the LORD, I CHANGE NOT!” Malachi 3:6. (This same reminder is repeated in Hebrews 13:8.)

“As for you, O house of Israel, thus saith the Eternal God; Go ye, serve ye every one his idols and thereafter also, if ye will not hearken unto me: but POLLUTE YE MY HOLY NAME NO MORE with your gifts and with your idols” (Ezek. 20:39).

Hosea 2:11: “I will also cause all her mirth to cease, HER feast days {days THE PEOPLE chose}, HER new moons {marking the beginning of the pagan New Year}, and her sabbaths, and all her solemn feasts.” Notice that these were Israel’s feast days — those Israel had acquired from the pagan nations around them — NOT those God had originally instituted through His Bible! “And I will visit upon her the DAYS OF BAALIM, wherein she burned incense to them …” (verse 13)! (This is a quote with scripture from: http://www.bodyofchristonline.us/newyearseve/)

Daniel 7:25King James Version (KJV) “And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.”

1 Kings 18: 21 “And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the Lord be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.”

  1. Interesting isn’t it how slick Satan is? I, too, fell prey for a moment and was actually buying myself and my sister who lives with me treats at the store. Then I realized once I was home what I was doing and stopped. But its really hard sometimes. Let me ask you a question…what do you say to folks who wish you “Merry Christmas” or “Happy New Year”? Especially when Hanukkah is not close to Christmas like it was this year. This year in response to the MC wish I said “Happy Hanukkah”. But New Years? I’m clueless…what can we say? I don’t want to be rude and often times you can’t stop and explain the evils of it all…so I find myself repeating it back to them even before I can think. Old habits die hard for sure. I just REALLY HATE these pagan holidays and every time I mess up like that I can hear Satan snickering. GRRRRRR. Let me know if you have thought of a good reply. Yah bless you sister!

    • He snickers at you too? And here I thought it was only me! (I love you woman; I look forward to seeing you in heaven where we can exchange all sorts of these incidents!) I struggle with the same issue. Except for me, I can’t even bring myself to say “Happy Hanukkah”, because I don’t want them to think that I celebrate the pagan aspects of the traditional Jewish Hanukkah, like spinning tops and gambling for money, or using the nine-candled menorah instead of the biblical seven-candled one. (Most people around here, assume you are an unbeliever if you celebrate it.) A few times I have said “Happy Hanukkah”, and then told them that we still believe in Jesus, but most of the time people say “Merry Christmas” when they really just should have said “Goodbye” or “hello”. They don’t want to take the time to talk at all. Others, I have come across, were willing to talk, but were very set in their ways. So yes, I have been beset with the same issue. New Years was more of the same.

After much thought, I am resolved to face next years “Merry Christmas” and “Happy New Years” salutations with a simple “Take Care” in return, when they come from pagan strangers who are unwilling to talk. (The Lord usually lets me know who those are.) The greeting “Take Care”, serves as a caring warning to them. If they are so stubborn in following their pagan practices, then they really do need to “take care”, for satan has every right to come in and attack them. They need to be extra careful in what they do because of this. The phrase comes from the ancient Greeks, who were into pagan practices themselves. (See towards the bottom of this page for that info: http://web.eecs.utk.edu/~mclennan/OM/CSC.html)

For those who love the Lord and simply refuse to see the evil in the pagan holiday rituals done in Jesus name, I think I will simply say “Bye!” or “Hello!”, which ever is appropriate. If I am at a gathering where it is used as a more personal greeting, I might say scripture in return, such as “may the Lord bless you and keep you.” (Numbers 6:24) If I sense the Lord’s leading, I may even pretend they just sneezed and simply say “Bless you!” 🙂

May the Lord bless thee, and keep thee:
The Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.

      Love, C. Dunamis

  2. Our heavenly Father is so amazing! The same thing happened with me (regarding removing the pagan holiday delusion from me). I was seeking the Lord about what church I should go to celebrate the new year and He told me to do reseach on the holiday. Out of my obiendience, I learned the truth, repented for all the times I celebrated the holiday, renounced it, and asked Him to break off any curses that came from my lack of knowledge. I stayed home the night of Dec.31 & thanked Him for cleansing me with truth. It is not His will that we be deceived, but we have to do our part with reaching out to Him asking for truth or what He wants us to do. 🙂 Isn’t it beautiful how we are being perfected by Him?
I am glad that I have more truth that the holidays that we have been condition to celebrate are not holy days. Thank you very much for sharing your testimony. 🙂 Your blog has been a blessing to me. I pray that our Holy Father continues to increase your wisdom, discernment & relevation. Also, that He will protect & cover your family with the blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.

    Love,
    K-Lynté

    • Hi Poet K-Lynte’
Thank you very much! That was a wonderful blessing you have placed over me and my family!

Please Jesus, place your protective and cleansing blood over Poet K-Lynte’ and his beloveds as well.!

Easter took our family three years to give it up, and Christmas took us seven years to give it up. Sometimes these man made traditions can be almost addictive…

Thank you for sharing your testimony with the readers!

      Shalom,
      C. Dunamis

  3. yeah the new year celebration is a worldly party thing so I don’t do that anymore, just..don’t care about it even if from a cleaner perspective ..seems like just another day, and a day to gather with the Lord Jesus.
I do like fireworks though, but why have them on jan 1st..why not right now! lol
I’d also clicked on the twilight zone show recently–and years ago I’d watched them and..I don’t remember really but could watch but some of them were creepy..but now they struck me as frankly-evil, something wrong with those shows so I shut the tv off and thinking a little on them they come off now as a science or syfi of the occult, as there not science but subtle occultish and I couldn’t watch them and didn’t want to.
And today we have these transhumanists and much more and old shows from way back had their part in things.

well anyway delight in the Lord..delight delight delight..and praying for you all.

  4. Hi Bread,

May the Lord Jesus fill your cup to overflowing!

I always enjoy hearing from you and your perspective. What you said about the Twilight Zone shows is interesting. Now that I think about it, there is a vibe that I get from the show, even if it is just at the beginning introduction. I have been able to tell within seconds of seeing it, that it is a Twilight Zone show, even if it is in the middle of the show, and just tracking through the channels. I get a feeling of…distinct uncomfortableness from it. I had not thought of it before as being a feeling of evil, but now that you mention it, it is as clear as the sky above that it is indeed evil.

It is also interesting what you said about the transhumanism, and the way old television shows helped to pave the way for it. Indeed, TV has become our ‘regularly scheduled programming’ that will help usher in the new world….

Thank you for your testimony on the New Year celebrations. It is nice to know that there are more like me out there, and that I am not the only one who tries to avoid it!

    Shalom dear brother,
    C. Dunamis
