A Miracle: I Survived The Bite Of A Black Widow Spider

(FYI: Nothing in this missive is to be taken as medical advice. If you are in need, go to the Great Physician.)

It was in the middle of the summer, and the temperature had soared to over a hundred degrees every day for the past three weeks. Our puny little air conditioner could never seem to keep up with the heat. I was getting sick of it. Literally.

So when my husband told me that it was going to be another blistering day, I decided to take my paperwork and go downstairs to sit by the air conditioner.

But the Holy Spirit told me no. “Stay up here and work,” He told me.

But I became angry at the command. “No!” I said in response. “I am sick and tired of being so hot all the time! I’m getting a break from it!”

So I took my work and went downstairs.

It was much cooler there. I sat at the table (this was the school table where we did our work during the week,) and felt relieved as I felt the cool breeze on my skin.

Then I felt something crawling on my leg. I thought it must be the fly that had been in the kitchen earlier. I felt the Holy Spirit tell me to look and make sure, but once again, I foolishly ignored Him. Without looking, I used my other foot to brush it off my leg.

That night, began one of the worst nights of my life. My heart pounded like it was trying to escape my chest, and every time I tried to lay down, I felt my lungs fill up with fluid till I had to sit up just to breathe. My head ached, and I felt almost like I had a severe case of the flu.

For three days, I was intensely ill.

I went back to the Lord and begged for His forgiveness, and asked Him to have mercy on me and help me. I push prayed until I heard Him give me directions. He told me not to go to the hospital, but instead was to take a certain number of vitamin C’s, B vitamins, and calcium pills, and to repeat this as He instructed.

I told Him that I could not, for I had run out of calcium pills several days ago, and was waiting for the shipment to arrive any day.

“Go look,” He said.

“It’s not there, Lord! I’d just be wasting my energy!”

“GO LOOK!”, He insisted.

Sigh. I knew my God was not going to give up. So I said “Fine! I’ll go look!”

It wasn’t where I usually keep it; it was sitting right at eye level, in front of the other bottles of assorted vitamins.

I was amazed. I figured that my husband had probably seen the shipment, and had begun unpacking it for me, but got called away before he could put them all away.

I thanked God, took the medicine, and slowly started to feel better.

A week later, and I was still suffering from the strange symptoms. So I went to the doctor.

He listened to my symptoms, looked at my swollen leg, (It looked like I had a half a grapefruit hiding under the skin,) and promptly diagnosed me with a black widow spider bite. He said I was fortunate that I had survived the poison, but that there was little he could do for me now, as the worst of the danger had passed. (The anti-venom was contraindicated this late in the game.)

So I went home, and researched on line what one could do for a black widow spider bite. To my amazement, one web site suggested taking large doses of vitamin C, B vitamins, and calcium, every few hours.

I thanked my husband for putting the bottle of calcium in my closet, but he said he didn’t do it. “Maybe one of the boys did it,” he replied. I figured he must be right.

But a week later, I got a notice in my email from the supplier of those calcium pills. “We are sorry to inform you, that the product you ordered has not yet shipped out, because it is still on back order…”

I was shocked. I went back into the closet to stare at the bottle of calcium pills. They looked no different from what I usually use. They were the same brand and dose as I usually keep on hand. But I took them and hugged them to my chest, and thanked God for sending them to me. When they ran out, I wanted to keep the bottle to remember it by, but the Lord said it might become an idol and that I was not to keep it, so I threw it out.

The symptoms lasted for close to a year. It is not something I would wish upon another living thing, ever.

This last night of Hanukkah, we remember what the Lord Jesus has done for us. This was one of them.

May you be blessed abundantly by the Lord God of all,

A Miracle: The Angel and Their First Customer

In an effort to bring in more money into the household, my husband started up a business. Him and his partners did their research, and knew that there was a great need for the product that they had created. So they were quite confused when, after almost two years, they had not even had one customer. They met and discussed closing the business.

That night, my youngest was woken up in the middle of the night by a very bright light. It shined out from the corner of his room. It waited, and when my son refused to get up, it shined brighter. (He was very tired.) Finally my son realized that it wouldn’t go away and let him sleep, till he got up and gave it some attention.

When he arose, the light dimmed, and he could see an angel of the Lord standing before him.

The angel told him, that the reason his father’s business had no customers, is that there was a pagan man praying to his god to bless this company (he was a friend of one of the partners,) and this man’s prayers were actually a curse upon the company. The angel told him he was to tell us to bind up this man’s prayers, and break their bonds and cords, and claim that they are as nothing.

The angel then said that the company could grow and be a help to us and one day even help out the body of Christ, if we prayed for it. The angel said it needed the prayers of his mother, to help it succeed. (At the time, my husband was doing this on his own, and hadn’t really talked to me about it.) The angel further said that when someone would ask about why the company was so successful, we were to say it was because of Jesus.

My husband was amazed at the message, for he had not told his youngest anything about the company’s problem.

We talked about it and came to an agreement. Then we bound up this man’s prayers in the name of Jesus.

Three days later they got their first customer!

Today, the company is growing, and we give all credit for its success to the Lord Jesus Christ.

Hanukkah is a time to remember the miracles on one’s life. This was one of them.

May you be blessed with miracles in your journey with the Lord,

A Miracle: My Children Were Fed

When I was a young mother, I suffered from horrible migraines. They left me dizzy, sick to the stomach, and unable to see. I had applied to the government for disability, but they denied me. I worried about how I would care for my children when one of them would strike me.

Then one day, one of them hit me hard. I wasn’t able to balance myself enough to move, and I was unable to see. I lay on the floor of my bedroom, not knowing what to do.

I cried out to my God for help.

I stayed there praying for about an hour.

Then my oldest boy came upstairs to see me. He was about five years old.

I told him that I knew how hungry he must be, and to be patient; at some point I should be able to go back down stairs to feed everyone.

He told me not to worry, and that he went ahead and fed everyone.

I was dumbfounded.

“With what?” I asked him. I thought maybe he had given everyone some cereal or crackers, though I balked at the thought of him climbing up that high without supervision to get them. They were stored in the upper cabinets far out of their reach.

But what he did give them astounded me even further.

“Oh,” he said, as if it was no big deal, ”I made them pizza.”

“What?! How did they manage to eat it frozen?” (My mind was still trying to wrap around the thought that my son was able to dig through the big flat freezer to find one, much less that he would think to try and eat it.)

“I put it in the oven just like you do, and cooked it for them.”

“But how? You don’t know how to work the oven yet!”

“Yes I do. I watched how you did it, and I did what you did.”

I was floored.

“Is there any left?”

“No,” he said. “We ate it all.”

He must have cooked it well if everyone ate it.

Then I realized; God had answered my prayer in a way I had never anticipated.

This was the child that had a disability; he had been diagnosed with severe Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Oppositional Defiance Disorder, as well as some learning disorders. In my son’s case, these were fancy names for some nasty demons, though I did not come to this realization for some years yet. But for this child to behave as he did, was a miracle in itself. He was the one I would worry over; his impulsivity had gotten him into trouble many times before. For him to behave so responsibly and helpful, was quite unexpected. He had even managed to turn the oven off when he was done cooking the pizza!

After this incident, I no longer wondered if I should give up my children to Child Protective Services. God was telling me to keep them, and I knew then that He would indeed provide the way for us.

In the end, He did even better than that; he removed the migraines from me!

During Hanukkah, we recall the miracles that Christ has done in our lives. This was one of them.

May the Lord Jesus Christ bless you greatly and give you His peace!
